My Story

I was born in the 1970s in Minatitlán, Veracruz, an oil town in southern Mexico, where I grew up surrounded by heat, humidity, and the lush green of the tropics.
As a teenager, I spent long hours sitting on a low wall beside the highway, watching cars, buses, and semi-trucks go by. I wondered where they had come from, where they were headed, and imagined the stories of the people traveling inside them. Long before I wrote novels, I was already dreaming about the places I hoped to visit someday.
After finishing high school, I moved to Mexico City, a place that, over time, became home for reasons you may recognize hidden between the pages of my books. Today, I divide my time between Mexico City, the Isthmus of Oaxaca, and wherever curiosity, an airplane, or a tank of gas happens to take me.
For many years, I worked in a global and highly competitive environment, led multicultural teams, and traveled frequently around the world. But not every trip was for work. Many were simply journeys I chose to take because there was always something inside me urging me to explore a little farther.
That chapter of my life introduced me to people, cultures, and stories that would eventually find their way into my novels. For a long time, writing was something I kept saving for "someday." Almost a fantasy. I kept telling myself that someday I would have the time. Someday I would finally do it.
That "someday" arrived when a trip to Scotland unraveled many of the certainties on which I had built my career and forced me to ask myself a simple but uncomfortable question:

That question ended up changing far more than my profession.
Today, I write, travel, read, observe, and have conversations convinced that the best stories are born not only from imagination, but also from the people, places, and experiences that transform us when we least expect it.
